Our Heritage

Born from Craft

The story of Stephen Foster began in London in 1974, but its foundations were laid much earlier.

At just 15 years old, Stephen began his career as a diamond setter. He went on to complete a five year apprenticeship, developing the technical knowledge, discipline and hand skills that would define his approach to jewellery making.

Those formative years established a belief that remains at the heart of Stephen Foster today: exceptional jewellery is the result of exceptional craftsmanship.

Having developed his expertise within the trade, Stephen went on to establish his own jewellery manufacturing company, beginning a journey that would span more than five decades.

A London Jewellery Heritage

Our home in Hatton Garden places Stephen Foster at the heart of one of the world's most historic jewellery districts.

For generations, Hatton Garden has been synonymous with diamond dealing, jewellery making and specialist craftsmanship. It is an environment where reputation matters, relationships endure and knowledge is passed from one generation to the next.

It is within this remarkable setting that Stephen Foster has built its own reputation, creating fine jewellery for leading British jewellery houses, independent jewellers and private clients.

A London Jewellery Heritage

Five Decades of Expertise

Over the past 50 years, jewellery has changed considerably. Styles have evolved, technology has advanced and new techniques have emerged.

What has not changed is our belief in the value of craftsmanship.

Traditional goldsmithing and setting techniques remain central to our work. They are complemented by modern technology and contemporary design, allowing us to achieve greater precision while retaining the character and individuality that only skilled craftsmanship can provide.

This balance between tradition and innovation is fundamental to Stephen Foster.

Eternity rings date back 4,000 years to Ancient Egypt, where bands we’re made using woven reeds, bone or metal as a token of eternal life and love.

Hexagon

The hexagon is a symmetrical, balanced and structurally integral shape, a staple of our ethos.

A Heritage That Continues

Heritage is not simply measured in years. It is measured in the knowledge that is passed down, the standards that are maintained and the trust that is earned over time.

For more than five decades, Stephen Foster has remained dedicated to those principles.

Today, we continue to create fine jewellery in London with the same respect for craftsmanship that inspired Stephen when he began his career as a young diamond setter.

Our approach may continue to evolve, but the values remain constant: exceptional materials, considered design, skilled craftsmanship and an unwavering attention to detail.

Made to Outlast the Moment

The finest jewellery is not defined by a season or a passing trend.

It becomes part of a person's story.

An engagement ring worn for a lifetime. An eternity ring marking years shared together. A piece inherited from a parent or grandparent. A jewel created today to become an heirloom tomorrow.

For more than 50 years, Stephen Foster has had the privilege of creating such pieces.

And that is the heritage we intend to continue.
